Puerto Colon, La Isabela.. What a fascinating place! It is truly a gift from Mother Nature. Untouched coral reefs stand in perfect position and offer great protection against any contingencies. Truly nature's miracle, the reefs have a natural opening that works perfectly as an entrance for the port and the canal. The cliffs and the walls (another cliff named by the locals) combined with huge plains have created a different type of flora that gives the human eye a beautiful majestic view of the ocean in a way most people have never experienced. All is perfectly protected like a baby in a crib inside the bay of Puerto Colon. Well protected from the waves and the Atlantic's current, Puerto Colon sits behind Cabo Isabela. The mystery of this unique land invited us to feel, read, and understand how to create Puerto Colon.
The object of Puerto Colon has always been to keep the harmony between Mother Nature and humans. A unique design was created only for this unique land.
Acknowledging the huge international need for a marina between the Bahamas and Puerto Rico and the need for a residential or tourist development in the northern region of the D.R, we understood the governing principals of our concept. As a result, we created a residential port where people can come together and enjoy themselves in a social and fun atmosphere. Everyone from the blue waters fisherman, to the villa owner with a yacht on his private dock, to the family living in their NAHU Home. Not to mention the sailors; from the young mariners practicing on their lasers, to those cooling off at the yacht club, to others unwinding at El Tesoro (the sailors row bar on the canal), to the captain on a break from his world wide odyssey.
Puerto Colon is a port and canal with 200 slips that creates the spectacular Sandy Key Island with 24 lots of approximately 2500 sq. meters each. South of the canal there is a cliff about 8 meters high with a unique topographic terrace where the rest of Puerto Colon is located. In the center of this plateau we have the main square which includes restaurants, bakery, Medical Center, spa, amphitheater, administration center and more. East from the main square there is another 100 lots of splendid land for residents to construct their preferred NAHU home. The west side will consist of a luxurious condo complex and Apart hotel for our guests to enjoy a fascinating overview of the port and the ocean.
Town houses will be located behind the main square, followed by the tennis courts, club house and the heliport. The whole project is located on 35 hectare piece of land, with over 800mts of gorgeous white sandy beaches. The topography and the geology allowed us to build an inexpensive infrastructure, and as a result we have almost no competitors in the market.
History
What gives us the urge to search for foreign culture, distant continents, and different people with different customs, culture, and religion? We spent four years sailing the world's oceans and finally stopped in the Greater Antilles, on the north cost of Hispaniola to answer that question.
After 18 years of living and working as one with the locals, the spiritual base for the idea and the essence of Puerto Colon in La Isabela was created.
La Isabela and Navidad; names that in 1492, started to write the new world's history. Searching for a shorter sea route to India, Christopher Columbus unconsciously discovered the West Indies, which has become one of the most spectacular sailing paradises on Earth. In the same year, Columbus' flagship Santa Maria was shipwrecked some miles west from La Isabela. With salvaged wood from the wreck, Fort La Navidad was built for the crew members of the Santa Maria. With the remaining vessels La Niña and La Pinta, Columbus and his crew sailed back to the Spanish crown and organized the second expedition.
In 1493, back on the same Hispaniolan shore, a tragedy would await Columbus. Fort Navidad was destroyed in a war with the Taino Chief Guacanagarix, leaving no survivors.
Looking for a safe port, Columbus kept sailing east along the coast, until he reached the bay of La Isabela where he immediately realized that they had found the safest port in the new world. It was here where the first settlement of the Americas was built with its own city hall, cemetery, and the first church of the new world.

Environment
Puerto Colon is located in historical La Isabela, which is the first city founded in the New World located next to the Atlantic Ocean and some 70 kilometers from Puerto Plata. La Isabela was founded in December of 1493 by Admiral Christopher Columbus during his second voyage. It was from here that the first land expedition headed to the interior of the island. The name of La Isabela was given in honor of Queen Isabel, who was favored by Columbus since she had given him everything necessary for his expeditions.
Established on the north coast of the Dominican Republic, Puerto Colon is one of the safest areas in the Caribbean against hurricanes and tropical storms. After hurricanes David and George ravished through the Caribbean, most of the Islands in the West Indies suffered major environmental and financial damages. Without a scar on the face of the north coast, La Isabela once again proved that Columbus had truly found the safest port in the Caribbean.
Puerto Colon is an environmentally friendly project, combining the best of the human imagination and the power of trade winds. Working along side Mother Nature we help to produce a renewable and clean energy source, to further help us protect the heritage of the past.
Puerto Colon is located midway between Florida and the Windward Islands of the Caribbean. The Dominican Republic is blanketed with rainforests teeming with diverse flora and fauna, including some 1500 species not found anywhere else. Dominican Republic boasts some seriously beautiful countryside, from mangrove swamps to highland cloud forests, dozens of gorgeous blooming trees and more than 218 species of birds.
Offshore the wildlife is even more spectacular, particularly the famous gathering of the humpback whales in the Bahía de Samaná during breeding season. Manatees, pilot whales, and more than eight species of sea turtles call the waters surrounding Hispaniola their home. Our coast is covered with white sandy beaches, gorgeous palm trees, and surrounded with beautiful turquoise tropical waters. Of our 19 years on this island we have never encountered such beauty and diversity than that of Puerto Colon.

Puerto Colón, La Isabela. Que sitio histórico! Regalo de la madre naturaleza! . Arrecifes intactos en perfecto estado que ofrecen protección total contra cualquier imprevisto. Y por milagro de la naturaleza, los arrecifes tienen una abertura natural que nos sirve perfectamente como entrada al Puerto y al Canal. Los Farallones, las paredes (como les llaman los nativos de este lugar) altos acantilados combinados con grandes llanuras aterrazadas que crean una Flora diferente y ofrece al ojo humano una belleza majestuosa del océano abierto en forma tal como pocas personas han experimentado. En la bahía de Puerto Colón todo esta intacto, perfectamente protegido como el bebe en la cuna, lejos de las fuertes olas y la corriente del Atlántico detrás del Cabo Isabela. El misterio de esta topografía nos invita a sentirla, leerla y entenderla para así crear nuestro Puerto Colón.
El objetivo del mismo es mantener la harmonía entre la Naturaleza y el ser humano. Un diseño creado exclusivamente para este terreno tan único.
La conclusión fue lógica y fácil a la vez. Con la alta demanda internacional de un Puerto situado en medio da las Bahamas y Puerto Rico, la falta de una Urbanización Costera Turística y Residencial en el Cibao( región norte de la República Dominicana), entendimos cuales eran las columnas principales de nuestro concepto. Como resultado creamos un Puerto Residencial donde las personas pueden reunirse y disfrutar de una atmósfera social y divertida. Desde el pescador de aguas azules, el dueño de villa con su yate en su muelle privado, la familia en su casa NAHU, Esto sin mencionar el joven velerista practicando su Laser, la juventud refrescándose en la playa del Club de Yate o simplemente los que prefieren disfrutar de un ambiente acogedor en el bar "El Tesoro", hasta el capitán que hace su parada en su recorrido alrededor del mundo.
Una de las particularidades de Puerto Colón es el diseño que la naturaleza nos ha brindado, es un Puerto con un canal que en medio de estos crea una espectacular isla "Cayo Arena" con 24 solares de aproximadamente 2500 mts2 cada uno, en el Puerto tenemos 200 puestos de amarre. Al sur del canal se encuentra un acantilado de unos 8 metros de altura, su topografía en terrazas es única y es aquí donde esta ubicado el resto del proyecto. En el centro de esta meseta esta la plaza central donde encontraras Restaurantes, Panadería, Centro Médico, Spa, Anfiteatro, Centro de Administración y mucho más. Al este de la plaza central se encuentran otros 100 solares una opción más para nuestros residentes construir su casa NAHU. La zona oeste consiste en un lujoso complejo de Condominios y Aparta Hotel desde aquí nuestros huéspedes disfrutan de una vista por encima del puerto al océano.
Detrás de la plaza central están los Town Houses seguido por las canchas de tenis, la casa club y el Puerto de helicópteros (helipuerto). El proyecto completo esta situado en 35 hectáreas de terreno, con mas de 800 metros de hermosas playas de arena blanca. La topografía y geología de esta zona nos permiten construir una infraestructura poco costosa y como resultado no tenemos competencia en el Mercado.
Historia
Qué nos impulsó a buscar distintos lugares, continentes lejanos y gentes con costumbres, culturas y religiones diferentes? Pasamos cuatro años navegando los océanos del mundo y finalmente nos detuvimos en las Antillas Mayores, en la Costa Norte de la Española para encontrar respuestas a estas preguntas.
Después de (19) años trabajando y conviviendo con la gente, nació la base espiritual, la esencia y la idea para crear Puerto Colón en La Isabela.
La Isabela, Navidad; nombres que en 1492 comenzaron a escribir la historia del Nuevo Mundo. En búsqueda de una vía más corta hacia La India Cristobal Colón inconscientemente descubrio Las Antillas, lugar que se ha conviertido en uno de los más espectaculares paraisos de la navegación sobre la tierra. En ese mismo año, naufragó una de las embaracaciones de Colón. La Nao Santa Maria, unas cuantas millas al este de La Isabela. Con la Madera rescatada del naufragio se construyó el Fuerte La Navidad para los sobrevivientes de la Santa Maria. Días más tarde regresó a la Corona Española con los tripulantes de La Niña y La Pinta para así organizar su segunda expedición.
En el 1493, en las mismas orillas de la Española, a su regreso una tragedia le esperaba a Colón. El Fuerte La Navidad fué destruido en un enfrentamiento con el jefe taíno Guacanagarix del cual no quedaron sobrevivientes Españoles.
En búsqueda de un Puerto seguro, Colón continuó navegando hacia el este, a lo largo de la costa hasta llegar a la bahía de La Isabela, donde inmediatamente entendió que habia encontrado el Puerto más seguro del Nuevo Mundo, Fue aqui donde la primera colonia de las Americas fue fundada, con su respectivo ayuntamiento, cementerio y la primera iglesia del Nuevo Mundo.

Medio Ambiente
Puerto Colón esta ubicado en la histórica zona de La Isabela, primera ciudad fundada del Nuevo Mundo, situada frente al océano atlántico y a unos 70 kilómetros de Puerto Plata. La Isabela fue fundada en Diciembre del año 1493 por el Almirante Cristóbal Colón durante su Segundo viaje. El nombre de La Isabela fue dado en honor a la Reina Isabel, a quien Colón debía honores por el apoyo brindado, aportando todo lo necesario para sus expediciones.
Establecida en la costa norte de la República Dominicana, La Isabela es una de las zonas más seguras del Caribe contra el paso de los huracanes y tormentas tropicales. Después que los huracanes David y Jorge dieran paso por el Caribe, la mayoría de las islas en las Antillas sufrieron daños ambientales y físicos. La costa norte sobrevivió a posibles daños y especialmente La Isabela comprobó una vez más que los cálculos de Cristóbal Colón eran exactos al pensar que este lugar era el Puerto más seguro del Caribe.
Puerto Colón es un proyecto ecológico que combina lo mejor de la imaginación humana con la riqueza natural del sitio. Trabajando mano a mano con la Madre Naturaleza ayudamos a producir una fuente de energía limpia y renovable, aprovechando la fuerza de los vientos alisios lo cual nos ayuda a proteger este patrimonio del pasado.
La República Dominicana esta cubierta con bosques tropicales donde abundan diferente Flora y Fauna, incluyendo unas 1,500 especies de animales no existentes en ninguna otra parte. Además consta de campos verdaderamente hermosos, desde manglares hasta sierras y montañas cubiertas por nubes y bosques, cientos de árboles florecientes y más de 218 especies de aves diferentes.
Fuera de las costas la vida salvaje es aun más espectacular especialmente la famosa visita anual de las ballenas jorobadas en la Bahía de Samana durante la época de reproducción. Manatíes, ballenas y más de ocho especies diferentes de Tortugas marinas tienen su hábitat en las aguas alrededor de la Española. Nuestra costa esta cubierta con playas de arena blanca, hermosas palmeras y aguas tropicales de un bello azul turquesa. En nuestros (19) años de estar en esta isla nunca habíamos encontrado tal belleza y variedad como aquí en Puerto Colon.
